Why it’s important to listen to your inner voice

We are lucky to have been born with an inner voice. It’s the voice that guides us, supports us and tells us what we need to hear to be happy. We know we should listen to this voice but why don’t we? Why do so many of us ignore it? Most people do not actively seek to hear their inner voice. I did not even realize I had one until a few years ago. Now, I actively seek to hear it and it has made all the difference in my life…and in the lives of those around me too!

Listening to your inner voice helps you stay on track

When making decisions, our minds can sometimes play tricks on us. It seems like a good idea at first glance, but upon further inspection of your options, you may realize that you’re heading down a path you shouldn’t be. Always trust yourself. If something doesn’t feel right in your gut, it probably isn’t.

Listening gives you confidence

when you know that people are interested in hearing what you have to say, or when you accept yourself and believe in yourself, that’s when you become confident. But confidence is nothing without self-respect. When we listen to ourselves, we learn what our true selves are made of. For example: learning something new about yourself that’s valuable will make you more confident; learning something new about yourself that makes you question who you thought you were will make you stronger but also raise some questions!

Listening helps prevent mistakes

From small business owners to corporate executives, many people have been burned by not listening to their own internal voices. Too often, we choose not to trust our instincts and end up dealing with severe consequences in our businesses and in our personal lives. Some of these consequences can be avoided if we learn how to listen carefully—and actively—to what’s going on inside of us.

Listening boosts self-esteem

We feel better about ourselves when we take actions that are consistent with our values. Listening to our intuition is a core way of increasing self-trust and building self-confidence.

Listening lets you be proactive instead of reactive

If you think back on your past, you’ll realize that a lot of things happened in reaction to something else. You wouldn’t have gotten up for work if someone hadn’t called in sick. You probably wouldn’t have found time for yourself unless there was no other option. Think about how much happier you could be if you created more time and space for yourself—if you listened to yourself.

Listening helps you take the necessary steps toward progress

When we let our thoughts control us, they can lead us down a path of negativity and inaction. But when we learn how to control them, we can finally see positive changes in our lives. By identifying negative thoughts and learning how to rid ourselves of them, you are actively working towards a positive change in yourself. Listening is far more than simply being silent; it’s choosing not only what you hear but also what you allow yourself to think about.

Listening reduces anxiety by keeping you in check and in control

The moment you stop listening is usually when you start questioning yourself and feeling uneasy. Listening to that little voice in your head keeps things at bay, and even makes living day-to-day easier. As a result, you feel more confident and secure. And who doesn’t want that? So take a deep breath, keep those ears open and give some thought to how to improve yourself.
