Go Ahead, Listen to Your Gut: Why You Shouldn’t Always Follow the Rules

We’ve all heard the saying, “When in doubt, follow your gut.” And while that adage may be true in some situations, following your gut could also be costing you potential opportunities and valuable relationships in other areas of your life. This post will explore the times when you should take risks and go against the grain, as well as those instances when you should definitely listen to the rules and trust your gut about how to proceed in specific situations.

The problem with forcing people to follow rules

People are different and what works for one person might not work for another. Also, rules can be constricting and prevent people from being creative or thinking outside the box. Sometimes, it’s best to go with your gut feeling and do what you think is best, even if it goes against the grain. Some people say that this means you should never follow any rules at all, but others disagree. When deciding whether or not to follow a rule, always take into account the consequences of both choices (following the rule vs doing something else). If breaking a rule has bad consequences but following it would have bad consequences as well, then break away from it.

The real reason why we can’t help it

We’ve all been there before. We’re given a set of rules or guidelines to follow, but our gut tells us to do something else entirely. Sometimes, it’s best to listen to your gut and go against the grain. Here’s why you should always ignore the rules when you can:

1) It will feel better. Ignoring what we know to be true for us feels liberating, which is why we don’t always question it in the first place.

2) It will help you grow as an individual. Doing what is right for you will make you stronger as a person in more ways than one. Breaking out of old habits can lead to personal growth on both an emotional and physical level.

How this mindset can help us succeed

We’ve all been told that we should listen to those who are older and wiser than us, and that following the rules is the key to success. But what if listening to your gut and doing what you want is actually the key to success? What if following the rules can hold you back from achieving your dreams? It’s a big leap of faith, but it might be worth it in the end.

So what can we learn from this?

  • Acknowledge your mistakes. When you make a mistake, try to admit it as soon as you can, and apologize if necessary. …
  • Analyze your mistakes. …
  • Get feedback. …
  • Find lessons. …
  • Make a plan to apply lessons. …
  • Teach others what you’ve learned. …
  • Reflect on your progress. …
  • Keep a learning mindset.

There are no universal truths

We’re all different, and what works for one person might not work for another. So why do we keep trying to force ourselves into cookie-cutter lives? It’s time to break free from the mould and start listening to our gut instincts. After all, they’ve gotten us this far – why stop now? There are many rules in life that should be broken if you feel like it’s right. If you want to get away with things then go ahead and do it! One of my favourite quotes is Ignore all rules! The sentence before that says Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. It reminds me of my favourite quote by Oscar Wilde: Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

If a rule doesn’t feel right to you… don’t follow it!

You know yourself better than anyone else, so trust your gut instinct when it comes to making decisions. After all, you’re the only one who has to live with the consequences of your choices. When faced with a choice between two potential options, ask yourself what feels right. Consider what your intuition is telling you and how you feel about each option as well as which decision will bring more positive outcomes for you in the long run. For example, if there’s a rule that says don’t use red ink on documents… and red ink just happens to be your favourite colour… then ignore that rule!
