How to Achieve Your Goals: Remove Obstacles or Develop Resolve?

When you set out to achieve a goal, it’s easy to think the most important thing is to work hard and put in lots of effort. This can be true, but success also comes from removing any obstacles that stand in your way and giving yourself the resolve you need to see your goal through to the end, even when times get tough or you have trouble keeping up with everything you need to do. What comes first depends on what kind of goals you’re aiming for; here’s how to decide which one applies best in your situation.

Identify your goals

My goal is to exercise regularly. I want to lose weight, have more energy, and feel better about myself. To do this, I will remove obstacles by clearing the clutter in my home. I will also make a plan for when and where I will exercise each day. Lastly, I’ll put my family’s needs first so that they don’t stop me from achieving my goals. I’m lucky to be able to provide for them and I’m not going to let anything stand in the way of accomplishing this goal.

Determine what is holding you back

The first thing that you should do when starting on a goal is to determine what is holding you back. This can be the most difficult part, but it may also be the most important one because it could help you get over your obstacles more quickly. Once you know what’s holding you back, then you’ll be able to figure out how to work through it and start making progress. If it’s something in your environment (i.e., time management), then you’ll need to make changes around that area of your life so that they don’t interfere with achieving your goals anymore.

Create a plan to either remove the obstacle or develop the resolve

If you want to achieve your goals, it is important that you think about which one of these two skills will help you most. If you want to remove the obstacle in your way, then what needs to be done is that this obstacle needs to be identified and removed. Once this obstacle has been removed, it will no longer be a factor in achieving your goal. In order to develop your resolve, however, you need to figure out what obstacles have created this lack of resolve within you and how they are affecting your ability to complete the task at hand. The more specific the obstacle is, the better chance there is that it can be overcome with enough time and effort put into resolving this conflict within yourself.

Take action

The first step in achieving any goal is removing obstacles. If there are no obstacles, it’s easy to achieve the goal. However, without resolve and strength, it will be difficult.

For example, if a person wants to lose weight and they have no food in their house, they can remove the obstacle by going grocery shopping. They would also have resolve and strength because they know that they only need to focus on not buying unhealthy food while at the grocery store. If someone doesn’t have those two qualities–resolve and strength–it won’t matter what obstacles are removed; they’ll still feel helpless and weak.

Evaluate and adjust as needed

It is a question that has been asked for centuries. Should you remove the obstacles in front of you, or should you develop the resolve and strength to combat those obstacles? The answer can be found by looking at the difference between an obstacle and a challenge. An obstacle is something that cannot be changed. A challenge is something that can change with time, effort, and sometimes even luck. If your goal is difficult enough, it will require both removing obstacles and developing resolve. What else should they do before achieving their goal(s)?

As long as you are aware of what might stand in the way of your success, anything is possible!
